The 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will close the season and then we will have around three months off.
What can we expect from the last race of the season?
Max Verstappen wins 2023 Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
Some things won’t change when it comes to Formula 1 in 2023. The Las Vegas circuit has really played into Ferrari’s hands, but what we have for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in terms of track requirements is something something more traditional.
The track won’t offer too many surprises and Red Bull will have a big lead this weekend, meaning Max Verstappen should take victory at the 2023 Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Ferrari will secure second place in the championship
Ferrari and Mercedes head into the 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix with just four points apart in the constructors’ championship. The gap has closed quite quickly over the last few races and heading into the final race of the season, it all depends on who finishes second in the championship.
Ideally, a more traditional track would benefit the Mercedes team, but there is a catch. Two long straights should benefit Ferrari. Additionally, in the slow sections of the third sector the car behaves well.
The only place where Mercedes may have a clear advantage is in the first sector, but ultimately the scales should tip in favor of Ferrari.
If the Italian team does not have reliability problems, the Scuderia should beat Mercedes and take second place in the championship.
McLaren should claim the podium again
The race in Las Vegas was not a success for McLaren and the team was rightly disappointed.
At the same time, the drop in performance was due to the uniqueness of the track and conditions. At the 2023 Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, we see a more traditional track and this should help the team get back into contention for the top 3.
There may not be much happening in the race.
We arrive in Abu Dhabi after an interesting race that could potentially be a candidate for race of the season. Adrenaline can be strong, as can the anticipation of a race weekend. Unfortunately, Yas Marina is not the kind of track that can host too many interesting races.
The race can be pedestrian and it’s not the best way to end the season. And while one might hope for better, the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is rarely entertaining.
Williams is the dark horse this weekend
Williams has had a very impressive 2023 season, with the team making clear progress and achieving some success. The ability of the Williams car is to be fast on the straights.
The team has done a brilliant job of continuing this trend week after week. At the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, with such long straights, Williams can be expected to be the dark horse and attempt to end the season on a high note.
