Fernando Alonso finished seventh in Abu Dhabi, a result that gave him fourth place in the Drivers’ Championship, ahead of Charles Leclerc. His teammate Lance Stroll gained one point for tenth place and finished the season in the same tenth place. In the Constructors’ Championship, Aston Martin remained fifth, losing 22 points to McLaren.
Fernando Alonso (7th): “If they had told me before the start of the weekend that I would take fourth place in the individual competition, I wouldn’t have believed it. This result is a real gift. I am very satisfied with how I rode all season. I think I had my best season since 2012. I got the most out of the car all year.
The entire Aston Martin team has worked hard all year and I am already looking forward to winter and getting started on preparations for next season. We started this year as outsiders, but in 2024 everyone’s attention will be on us. We have to be prepared for that.
Finally, a big thank you to everyone in the team. This year has far exceeded our wildest expectations and everyone can be proud of our achievements.”
Lance walk (10th): “We decided to start on hard tires and do a long first stint hoping for a safety car and a quick pit stop, but our hopes were not fulfilled and we had to switch to a two pit stop strategy. In any case, I attacked well today and regained positions. We look better in racing, and today is just such a case.
I am happy that we ended the 2023 season with a strong performance that we can be proud of. It’s definitely been a learning year with some ups and downs, but we’re in good shape heading into next year.”
