Horner: We’re still an old-fashioned team.

Christian Horner summarized the season, in which the Red Bull Racing team and Max Verstappen broke almost all statistical records in Formula 1.

Q: It has undoubtedly been an incredible season with Max winning 19 races in the car called the RB19, so congratulations!
Christian Horner: Yes, this is a very special car, and it will remain in the history of Formula 1. We won 21 out of 22 races and only missed out on a win in Singapore – meaning there’s still work to be done! It’s been a phenomenal year and the people I think about most now are the people who usually stay behind the scenes, the ones who work at the team base in Milton Keynes. The success was made possible thanks to the work of all Red Bull Racing divisions, including the supporting divisions.

Q: Even though you’ve won almost all the races, what’s the first thing to look for when you get back to basics and start analyzing what you’ve accomplished?
Christian Horner: We always try to improve at least a little, because we know that our success motivates our opponents the most, and they want to win back even more. In Formula 1, nothing stands still and everything changes very quickly. You could see that as soon as we stopped upgrading our car, our rivals quickly started to overtake us.

Let’s hope we can apply all the lessons we learned with this car to next year’s RB20 chassis and try to win both championships again.

We are still an old-fashioned racing team pushing the boundaries and trying to surpass ourselves, but I must also emphasize the important role that Honda’s engine engineers have played in creating such a competitive and reliable engine.

Success consists of many factors, but the most important is the unwavering desire for victory, the fighting spirit that distinguishes our team. This is what allows us to achieve such results.

Question: I would like to ask a question about Sergio Perez: how confident are you that both of your drivers can challenge for victories next year?
Christian Horner: I think we have seen in recent races that Sergio has been able to adapt. Looking back at this weekend’s events, we can see that he once again showed some pretty solid pace and only needs to sort out Saturday’s qualifying.

He has the pace, the racing skills are at a very high level and he has probably overtaken more this year than any other driver. But we need him to start from the first two rows, not from ninth or tenth.

In any case, he took second place in the individual competition this year and rode some very good races. I think he knows where he needs to improve and I think he needs to change his approach to racing next year. Sergio knows he has a big year ahead of him, but winter will give him time to think about the improvements he needs to make. But I have no doubt that he will return stronger next year.
