Esteban Ocon: The best time doesn’t matter in testing

Esteban Ocon set the fastest time in the test in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. The Alpine driver worked on the tires and settings for 110 laps. Jack Duane took over the wheel of the second car, the A523. The Australian completed 108 laps and set the seventh fastest time, 0.645 seconds behind Ocon.

Esteban Ocon (1st): “The season officially ended with today’s testing in Abu Dhabi. We had a very busy day, because it was important to complete the whole, quite intense program.

I completed two race distances and successfully achieved everything we had planned: testing different tire compounds with different fuel levels and different settings. It’s always nice to see your name at the top of the score sheet, but when testing it doesn’t matter.

Today we say goodbye to the A523. This car has brought us ups and downs all season and has shown us where we need to improve to be better in 2024. Now it’s time to rest and then start preparing for the next season.”

Jack Duane (7th): “Great day! It’s always great to have a full day of testing and have a little more freedom to explore the car. Taking part in the first training last week was a great experience, but the tests mean so much more as they provide the opportunity to work on a comprehensive program and go deeper.

There was a lot to do today, assessing different tire compounds, fuel levels and settings. We did all this in 108 laps. Physically it was quite a challenge, but I feel great and am happy that we did the program well.

I feel comfortable behind the wheel and am satisfied with the work done. There is a break ahead, after which I will turn my attention to preparing for next year.”
