Fry plans to turn Williams into a title contender

Williams finished the 2023 season in seventh place in the Constructors’ Championship, the team’s best result since 2017. Pat Fry, who took over as Williams technical director on November 1, plans to make the team a of the contenders for the championship title.

Pat Fry: “What inspires me most is the fact that the team’s board of directors is looking ahead. They are willing to invest in whatever is needed to support the team building process. It’s nice to bring an old British racing icon back to life.

A team is defined by four factors: people, tools, methodology and, most importantly, team spirit. We want to create a culture that encourages risk-taking. We must be brave and work together. We will make mistakes, but everyone will do their best to come out ahead. We all need to support each other.

I need to determine what technologies the team will need for the next five years. I have already spoken to several department heads to get an idea of where we are and where we need to go.

The ultimate goal is to become a title contender. In the next two, three, four years we have to join the battle and get into the top three. Given our current position, this is a difficult task, but I consider it feasible.

I worked with Ron Dennis, I worked at Ferrari – these teams only celebrate victories and nothing else. We have to take this attitude and do everything we can to get Williams back to winning ways.”
