Isaac Hajjar led the protocol for the final day of Formula 2 testing in Abu Dhabi. The Campos rider completed his best lap of the morning session in 1:35.958 seconds.
Just like the day before, the drivers focused on short sets of laps at the start of the first session. Juan Manel Correa was the first to set the fastest time, but his result was soon surpassed by Jack Crawford.
The first red flags appeared on track about two hours before the end of the morning session, after yesterday’s leader Zame Maloney stopped on track. After resuming work on the track, the riders continued to improve their times – in this series of laps Hadjar completed his best lap.
The second red flag came after Oliver Berman and Paul Aron stopped on the straight between turns five and six – two unrelated stops.
The cars were evacuated and the tests continued. The drivers concentrated on long sets of laps, but twenty minutes before the end of the session, Christian Mansell stopped on track and red flags appeared again.
Ten minutes later his Trident was evacuated and the tests resumed, but no one could beat Isaac Hajjar’s time. Rafael Villagomez drove the longest distance: 56 laps.
The afternoon session was interrupted ten minutes after the start due to Oliver Berman’s stop in turn five. The Prema driver’s car was towed away and work resumed at the Yas Marina Circuit.
The session went smoothly. The riders worked on long series and towards the end they made fast attempts. The best time was set by Dennis Hauger – the MP Motorsport driver completed his lap almost as fast as Hajjar – 1:35.996 s. Gabriel Bortoleto drove the longest distance in the afternoon session: 80 laps.
This season in Formula 2 is officially over. The next time the riders will get behind the wheel again will be in February 2024.
