Jack Duhan turns down offer to join IndyCar

Jack Duhan, who finished third in the F2 season, has turned down the chance to move to the American IndyCar Series next year as he hopes to continue his career in Formula 1.

At the end of October we talked about how a promising Australian, who worked with Alpine F1 as a reserve driver, decided to say goodbye to the youth series, since his third year in Formula 2 would not bring him much. According to him, he receives several offers, but he is in no hurry to accept them.

“I don’t have any specific agreements at the moment. There were many options, but they all had nothing to do with Formula 1,” Speedcafe quotes the twenty-year-old Duen. “There were several options: Super Formula, IndyCar, the Hypercar category in the WEC. I was very lucky that I received all these offers.

However, I believe that all I have to do now is concentrate on Formula 1 and Alpine has made sure I have the opportunity to work behind the wheel.”

First of all, Jack will continue to work on tests with previous generation Alpine cars, in particular he already has experience driving the A521, which the Renault factory team used in 2021. But in 2024 it will be possible to get behind the wheel of the A522, the first Alpine car made in accordance with current technical regulations.

“It provides very valuable experience,” Duane continued. “I recently tested the 2021 cars, but as we know they are very different from the 2023 cars, which have larger tires, slightly more weight and develop more downforce.

But the 2022 car’s features are at least close to what the team will get in 2024, and there are some similarities here. These cars have a similar weight-to-power ratio and also run on 18-inch tires.

It is important to get used to a certain format of race weekends so that if I have to get behind the wheel and replace one of the drivers, I can cope with the task as best as possible.

If I had not been offered an extensive test program, I would of course have looked at other options as I needed to gain more flying experience. But given the opportunity to drive a Formula 1 car and continue to work with Alpine on the World Cup circuit, I believe this is the best way to secure my place in Formula 1 in 2025.”
