Rumors: Madrid will host the Spanish Grand Prix from 2026

The fact that the Spanish Grand Prix could move from Barcelona to Madrid in the future was discussed more than a year ago, and we have repeatedly published various news on this topic, although they were invariably presented only as plans, the implementation of which requires a lot of effort, and no specific deadlines have been mentioned.

Stefano Domenicali, president of Formula 1, initially emphasized two points: the contract with the Catalan ring runs until 2026, and holding two stages in Spain is hardly possible.

However, according to famous British journalist Joe Savard, it will soon be announced that Madrid has been given the right to host the Spanish Grand Prix from 2026.

The contract has a term of ten years and the race will take place in the capital of Spain on a semi-permanent urban circuit around the IFEMA exhibition complex. By the way, Barajas International Airport, named after Adolfo Suarez, is quite close, which is also convenient. In general, everything in terms of logistics should be fine there, since IFEMA is connected to the city by public transport routes and a metro line.

The race is financed from private sources, but with support from municipal and regional authorities.

Formula 1 races were once held in Madrid – from 1968 to 1981, the Spanish Grand Prix was held nine times at the Jarama circuit, which is located on the outskirts of the capital. That track was built according to the design of the Dutch architect John Hugenholtz, who also designed the famous Suzuki G8.
