Alpine F1 Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer believes the Imola speedway should be suitable for the A522 and confirmed that a number of technical innovations will be prepared for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.
In Australia, Fernando Alonso was unlucky when technical problems arose with the car during the final qualifying session, but there is no doubt that the Spaniard could have put in a pretty decent result that would have enabled him to start from the front or second row if the attempt could be completed.
The race was not a success for him either, but for various reasons, but Safnauer has no doubts that the new Alpine car is really capable of high speeds.
“We demonstrated the real speed of the car, there is no doubt about it. Albert Park has qualities that other tracks have, so we will be there soon,” said Safnauer. – Our car has certain strengths, but it has no obvious weaknesses. In other areas it is just not as good. In Saudi Arabia and Australia we did well, and everything will be fine in Imola too.”
The European stage of the season kicks off with a stage on the classic Italian circuit and the teams are working hard to finalize the new generation of cars – in 2022 this process will be especially important. Alpine F1 also plans to maintain a rapid pace of modernization to keep pace with rivals.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone comes to Imola with technical innovations,” said Safnauer. – I have been working in Formula 1 for a quarter of a century and it seems that everyone is always preparing updates for the first European races. It used to be Barcelona, now Imola. So we will also present some novelties.”
