At Spielberg, Haas riders Kevin Magnussen and Mick Schumacher reached the qualifying final for the second time in the last three laps. If they started the entire third row in Canada, they will start the sprint from the fourth row in Austria. Haas expects to earn points on Saturday.
Kevin Magnussen (7th): “Good Friday. We prepared the car and already in the first laps of practice it looked competitive. I was looking forward to qualifying with confidence and had a great day.
I don’t even feel like I managed to squeeze the most out of the car today. I think it was possible to get around a little faster. It’s funny – I’m seventh, but I don’t feel completely satisfied, which is great in itself.
Mick Schumacher (8th): “I was close to the final, so I was lucky. I couldn’t get the most out of the car, but I managed, although the session wasn’t the cleanest. I overdid it when I tried to warm up the tires – the rubber wasn’t in the best condition, which affected the lap time.
If I manage to hold the starting position tomorrow, I’ll earn points and if I regain a few places, I’ll get even more points. I hope the second option is realized.
Gunther Steiner, team leader: “Good day. We started the training strongly, which went smoothly and without any problems. We prepared for qualifying knowing that speed can get you to the final – and it happened.
Good work from the whole team. Hopefully we can repeat these results in tomorrow’s sprint and continue the streak we started last week.”
