Max Verstappen has won qualifying for the Red Bull Ring, allowing him to start from pole position in Saturday’s sprint. Although the session was interrupted by red flags twice, causing his own difficulties, the world champion sorted them out.
Max Verstappen: “I had to wait a long time for the second attempt and this is always not the best scenario, because you are already in the rhythm and want to keep fighting for pole. In addition, the temperature of the track decreased, the wind changed and as a result the battle in qualifying was very sharp.
There are not many corners on the Austrian track, but at the same time it is difficult in its own way, here you can easily make a mistake. So I’m very happy that I took pole, but points can only be earned tomorrow and Sunday.
I think we have a great car. Usually qualifying isn’t our forte, and now I just hope I can start well tomorrow and get through the first corner without any problems. Anything can happen then, but I have faith in our car.
I’m glad there are an incredible amount of spectators in the stands, and it’s nice that there are so many fans here in orange – we see their support! But I also felt it in previous years. This support puts a smile on my face and let’s hope we can do a great job this weekend.”
