On Wednesday evening, nine Formula 1 teams released the same statement denying any involvement in the FIA’s investigation into Susie and Toto Wolff over the possible transfer of confidential information.
A day earlier, the FIA released a statement about the start of an investigation. The statement did not directly mention the names of the Wolff spouses, but the wording stated that we were talking about the head of the Formula 1 team and an employee of FOM, which immediately aroused suspicion about Toto and Suzy. Furthermore, the FIA statement said the investigation was launched due to “press speculation” related to the BusinessF1 article.
The publication claimed that Wolff’s comments at a recent meeting of team leaders were based on information that could only have come from FOM, leading to complaints from other team leaders. They were reportedly concerned that secret conversations between team bosses could be passed on to Formula 1’s top management, and that information from Susie, who reports to Formula 1 president Stefano Domenicali, would become known to her husband. However, today’s statement from nine Mercedes rivals made it clear that they were not involved in initiating the investigation.
“We can confirm that we have not filed any complaints with the FIA regarding the transfer of confidential information between a Formula 1 team manager and a FOM employee,” the nine Formula 1 teams said in a statement. “We are happy and proud to support the Formula 1 Academy and its directors [Сьюзи Вольфф] through sponsorship of competitors and granting the series teams the right to use our car stickers.”
After today’s statement, it has become even clearer which side the teams are taking in the escalating conflict between Formula 1 management and FIA president Mohammed bin Sulayem.
