Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz qualified second and third at Spielberg, less than tenth behind pole holder Max Verstappen. Racers expect Ferrari to battle for victory in Saturday’s sprint.
Charles Leclerc (2nd): “Exciting qualifying – the gaps in the top three were minimal. On the last attempt I had some trouble getting the tires back into their optimal range after a long wait in the pits. Max was a little faster – congratulations. Hopefully we have an exciting sprint tomorrow.
I want to avoid problems in the race. This year I was in a catastrophic situation in five races, so I hope this weekend will be without problems and that we will earn as many points as we earn. †
Carlos Sainz (3rd): “When you have such tight results, you remember your lap and understand where you can play tenth and win pole. But the guys in front of me were also able to improve.
The good news is that in the final I managed to get a fast lap, which was not easy as the tires had cooled down quite a bit. In such a situation, it is not easy to trust the car in the first and third turns. I know where I lost and would like to get a better lap. In any case, I’m happy with third place and so close to the top two.
I’m going to fight them – I feel a lot more confident in the car compared to what it was a few stages ago. Tomorrow we still have work to do, but it is good that we have a second training session at our disposal, in which we can evaluate the speed on a long series.
In the sprint I start on the clean side of the track – a good position to fight. There will be a lot of overtaking on the track due to slipstreams. We have everything you need for a great weekend.”
