Before the main events of the Austrian weekend, Mattia Binotto, head of the Ferrari team, recalled the events of the previous stage of the championship and explained what tactics the Scuderia adopts and determines its priorities.
Mattia Binotto: “There are two classifications in the championship: the constructors’ championship and the individual classification. Our team pays maximum attention to both. In all races we try to earn maximum points, this is the main goal we pursue, this is what is important to us.
But we also try to prioritize, and this is influenced by which of the riders is in the lead in specific circumstances. At Silverstone, Charles Leclerc led the race and we bet on him. Whether it was the right choice is another question. But at some point we made decisions for him, trying to offer him the best tactics and give him the chance to keep a position on the track and win the race.
However, the safety car came out and Charles couldn’t win, but that’s another story. But if he proves again that he is faster, that he is ahead in the individual standings and that he is fighting for the title, then this will be a priority for us. Our riders know this and we don’t have to explain it to them. It all depends on the obvious factors, and we take a very logical approach.”
