Saturday’s Grand Prix practice with Saturday’s sprint is the most useless session of the weekend. After qualifying, the cars are in a locked park, the teams can’t fine-tune the settings or deliver any part of a different spec – you can only change the front wing angle of attack, the balance of the brakes and differential – and tire pressure. In addition, there is always a risk of degradation or some form of damage, so everyone tries to reduce the number of rounds and not attack.
At the start of the session, both Mercedes cars were disassembled. Hamilton changed the chassis and gearbox after yesterday’s accident, and Russell – just the box. George left ten minutes later and Hamilton – already at the end of the session.
The session went smoothly, without errors and deviations. Leclerc and Sainz left the track without affecting the cars.
The protocol was led by Carlos Sainz with a lap time of 1:08.610.
