Aston Martin’s best result in the sprint of the Austrian Grand Prix was the thirteenth place of Lance Stroll. Alex Albon collided with his partner Sebastian Vettel, after which the four-time world champion rolled back to last place and returned to the pits a circle before the finish.
Lance Walk (13th): “I had a good sprint. I managed to regain a few positions on Soft tires and then got stuck in a group of cars with an active DRS wing. It’s hard to make progress when such a tight fight in the middle group, and closer to the finish, the Soft tires lost their effectiveness.
On the grid I will gain another place thanks to the Valtteri Bottas penalty, so I will be one step closer to the points. We have a better understanding of the updated car, especially after a productive practice on Saturday.”
Sebastian Vettel (19th): “I think Alex was too optimistic when we struggled into corner 6 – he crashed into me, making it impossible to get a high starting position in the race. I was able to get onto the clay track, but the car sustained some damage.
Tomorrow I will start from almost the same position as today. It’s a shame because I made progress in the early laps and I think the decision to sprint on Soft was the right one. We have a long race ahead of us and we will try to do our best tomorrow to regain positions.”
