Rescuers underestimated the severity of Michael Schumacher’s injuries

On the eve of the tenth anniversary of Michael Schumacher’s accident in the French Alps, in which the driver suffered serious head injuries, new details of that fateful day have emerged in the German press.

Journalists from the German TV channel ARD managed to find a ski instructor named Andre, who was one of the first on the scene of Michael Schumacher’s fall. According to Andre, the driver’s safety helmet was completely broken, but the camera attached to the top of the helmet remained in place.

Schumacher was conscious in the first minutes after the fall and journalists suggest that this caused rescue services to underestimate the severity of the driver’s condition. However, already in the helicopter on the way to the clinic, Michael’s condition deteriorated sharply, he lost consciousness and had to undergo artificial respiration.

The seven-time world champion was taken to a clinic in Moutieres, but immediately afterwards it was decided to transport him to a specialized clinic in Grenoble. The situation was critical and Michael was delivered to Grenoble 45 minutes later than they would have been had they sent him there immediately after the fall.

ARD journalists suggest that this delay could have critical consequences for Michael Schumacher’s health.
