Fernando Alonso was unable to start in Saturday’s sprint due to car problems – and told what happened on the grid…
Fernando Alonso: “Five minutes before the start the car completely shut down and we couldn’t start it. We tried to start the engine with an external battery, but that didn’t help either. It became clear that something serious had happened – we will try to get everything ready for tomorrow’s race.
Tomorrow, at best, I’ll start last, so we don’t have a chance. You could say the weekend is over for me. In the sprint we saw cars driving in groups with DRS activated, with no overtaking possibility.
We will try to find an unexpected strategy and hope for luck, for the safety car, for something else. We’ll see, but I think I’m going to have a very long race in a group of cars.”
