Carlos Sainz: “The 2022 season was difficult, I mainly wanted to get my speed back.
In 2022 I was not as fast as in 2021 or in the cars of previous years, the aim was to get used to the new generation of cars, understand them better and be faster in qualifying and the race.
I think I have achieved this goal. I definitely feel much faster, I rode better in qualifying and the race and I achieved the necessary stability. There are always ups and downs, but there are more ups and less downs, so it’s definitely been a better season.
We must aim for the title in 2024. Will you be able to win it? Time will tell. But I want the team to believe it’s possible, because I believe it is.
I trust our team, I believe in the skills of our engineers. Looking at McLaren’s progress over the course of the season, I am confident Ferrari will be able to improve over the winter break. On some circuits we were three tenths ahead of Red Bull in qualifying, now we have to achieve the same over the race distance.”
