The Madrid-born father of Carlos Sainz said in an interview with AS that he sees nothing negative in Barcelona losing the Formula 1 race to Madrid.
Carlos Sainz Sr.: “I don’t know if there will be one or two Spanish stages in the end. But if the Grand Prix moves to Madrid, I will be very happy, as you understand.
Racing at the chosen location in Madrid would be an incredible event. If this happens and Carlos still competes in Formula 1, it will be a unique and fantastic holiday. Racing in your hometown is incredible. I think Carlos will really enjoy this Grand Prix.
The Spanish Grand Prix has been held in Barcelona for years, but there are no rules that require the national stage to be held on one circuit. We remember that the race was held in Jerez.
This is a private initiative, so no one can point to anyone and say money has been wasted on this.”
