We’ve already discussed concerns that amid management changes at Audi and cost-cutting measures, the company could abandon its decision to debut in Formula 1.
In early December, the German press reported that Audi’s new CEO, Gernot Döllner, confirmed during a management meeting that the program that would see Swiss Sauber transform into an Audi works team and debut in 2026 remained in place.
In a new interview with the German business magazine Handelsblatt, Döllner has already publicly assured that Audi will not abandon its plans.
Gernot Döllner: “The boards of directors and supervisory boards of Audi and Volkswagen have made a clear decision that Audi will enter Formula 1 in 2026. This plan remains in effect.”
From next season, the Sauber team, which has been racing under the name Alfa Romeo in recent years, will change its name. The new name of the team remains secret for the time being.
