Franz Tost about the best riders of his team…

Franz Tost managed Toro Rosso/AlphaTauri for many years and retired after the end of the season. There were 17 riders in his teams, but he selected only two…

Franz Tost: “These are of course Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel. They made a special impression, but I also remember everyone else.

They immediately had a professional approach. And they worked very closely with the team. I liked how they developed themselves, because this is also an important factor, not only from the sporting side, but also from the human side.

Of the 17 riders who participated in our team, I cannot say that no one had any talent. Everyone had their own strengths, they were all good people.

Sebastian and Max have won so many titles that everyone now thinks: “Yes, those were the best.” And you can’t argue with that. They were the best because of talent, skill and passion. This is very important. This also applies to discipline. They are both very disciplined.

I remember Sebastian, he cared about everything, about nutrition, about training, he really wanted to know everything, including the technical side. They studied the technique of other riders, they knew exactly what was not so good and where they needed to improve. They were honest with themselves.

They didn’t talk about it to outsiders, but knew exactly what they had to work on. And it has been very interesting to see this progress.”
