How quickly time flies! In December 2023, the oldest Formula 1 website in RuNet, F1News.ru, was 26 years old. Let’s take stock of the past year together and talk about plans for the future.
In 2023, the editorial staff of F1News.ru published almost seven thousand materials, described the events of all twenty-two stages in detail and conducted 110 live broadcasts.
In addition to Formula 1, we talked about the youth series Formula 2 and Formula 3, electric Formula E, the World Endurance Championship and several most interesting near-race events.
The most read news of the year was the October article on the disqualification of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton after the finish of the race in Austin, and the first stage of the season in Bahrain aroused the greatest interest.
In April, when there was a break in the Formula 1 calendar due to the cancellation of the Chinese Grand Prix, we started upgrading the technical infrastructure so that the site would always remain online. The measures taken meant that peak attendance on race days could be managed without disruption.
At the end of the year we raffled prizes in the individual phases of the Forecast Competition and announced the winner at the end of the season.
The work done over the past year was made possible thanks to your help. The F1News.ru team is grateful to everyone who has donated and continues to donate. Thanks friends! You create F1News.ru together with us and thanks to you the project continues to work every day.
You can support your favorite site and its development by making a monthly or one-time donation on a special page in the amount you consider necessary and possible.
Now about plans for the future. There is now a break ahead of the holiday in Formula 1, but F1News.ru continues to talk about everything that is happening. In February, and perhaps even at the end of January, the presentations of new cars and their testing will begin. Of course we will describe everything in detail and show photos.
After that, pre-season testing will take place at the Sakhir circuit and the first stage there. In 2024, the season starts unusually early: the Bahrain Grand Prix officially starts on February 29, when the traditional media day of communication between the drivers and the press will take place.
The season will be busy – 24 Grand Prix – a record in the entire history of Formula 1. Let’s hope that all the planned races will take place, and the drivers will please us with a close battle on the circuit from start to finish.
The next season of the Forecast Competition starts in February. We’re planning some improvements and enhancements, so if you haven’t participated before, be sure to give it a try.
Subscribe to the Telegram channel F1News.ru. We relaunched it some time ago and now there is not only a news feed, but also additional material. For the site, some messages are simply “not the format”, but they are perfect for Telegram. For example, short sketches from the daily lives of racers and operational messages on one line.
Let’s explain what we’re talking about by talking about the internal ‘kitchen’ of the newsroom, namely how we write news. It all starts with the fact that without warning, marked ‘urgent’, a press release about a new contract between the team and the driver arrives by post. Not always, but as a rule this is a multi-part essay with an expression of gratitude to all sponsors and their relatives.
It takes 10-15 minutes to isolate the essence, write a note and publish it on the website. On the one hand, it is not that long, but on the other hand, writing one line in Telegram takes 20 seconds and you are also aware of what is happening. And after some time you will receive a link with details that can be read on the website.
Another content that is more abundant on our Telegram channel than on the website are videos from the teams’ social networks. Placing a video from YouTube in the news is a matter of minutes, and we will continue to publish them, but posting videos from other social networks to the site will not work, because many readers from Russia will not see it. But such a video can be viewed on the channel without any problems.
Audio streams and informal communications are also planned on the Telegram channel. Next week, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of F1News.ru Andrey Los will talk to you live. Subscribe to the channel so as not to miss the announcement of the stream date and time, and prepare your questions!
