Richard Fershhor was the first to cross the finish line in the Austrian Formula 2 race on Sunday, but in the end forfeited the victory: he failed to make it to the pit lane on the return to the pit lap, because he simply ran away from natural gas.
The FIA inspectors failed to extract sufficient fuel from the tank of the Trident team’s car and this is considered a very serious violation, which will certainly be followed by a disqualification. Consequently, Ferskhor was deprived of the win and Jehan Daruwala appeared to have moved to the first line of protocol.
However, he did not take the win: the Prema team also committed a violation, for which they were fined after the finish, and the Indian was formally given a penalty passage through the pit lane. Since he could no longer serve this penalty, 20 seconds were added to his result. As a result, he dropped to 12th place.
In addition, the Campos team is trying to protest against the 5-second penalty given to Roberto Meri, which means that the final result of the race is not yet known. In theory, he can still return to the podium, and Logan Sargent will celebrate the win afterwards. But this is not yet certain.
