Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko confirmed that his contract runs until the end of 2024. The Austrian specialist said in a new interview that he is conducting negotiations this week about his future in the team.
Question: Mr. Marco, how are you going to end this year?
Helmut Marko: Now I am in Graz and enjoying the silence. I have plenty to do without the stress of traveling and spend a lot of time in nature.
Question: Do you like Christmas holidays?
Helmut Marko: All these Christmas parties really annoy me. I prefer peace and quiet with loved ones.
Q: It seems there is a life without the stress of Formula 1. Do you already know what kind of workload you will have in your role as a consultant?
Helmut Marko: Negotiations on this subject will take place this week.
Question: How true are the rumors that Christian Horner could be promoted, and that he will be responsible not only for Red Bull Racing, but also for AlphaTauri?
Helmut Marko: We are considering several options. No decisions have been made yet, including what I will do. My current contract runs until the end of 2024.
Question: In the past, all important decisions were made by Dietrich Mateschitz. Who has the final say now?
Helmut Marko: Now the circle of decision makers has been expanded. They include Mark Mateschitz, co-owners of the company from Thailand, and Oliver Mintzlaff.
The way Mateschitz and I were able to solve problems in the past was unique. After such a winning season, which overshadowed everything else, I find it incredibly unfortunate that he did not achieve this success with us.
Question: Max Verstappen has made it clear that he wants you to stay in the team. Is this the best argument for your future in Formula 1?
Helmut Marko: This is a difficult topic. Of course I have obligations to Red Bull and Max. However, all conditions must be met. Nothing has been decided yet.
