Could there be massive changes within the teams? It is very possible. Some drivers risk finding themselves without a contract after a year and even ending their Formula 1 career.
Sergio Perez (Red Bull)
Sergio Perez has had a weak 2023 Formula 1 season and is unable to adapt to the Red Bull car.
Even though Pérez has secured his place on the team for 2024, his future is by no means assured. On the contrary, according to reports, Red Bull is closely monitoring the Mexican’s performance and if he fails in races, the team can select a replacement.
Guanyu Zhou (Sauber F1)
Many have questioned the decision to keep Guanyu Zhou at the Sauber team.
Zhou has been with the team since season 2, but he hasn’t impressed with his results yet. The Chinese is not someone who can compete for the top spots based on his performances in Formula 1. Moreover, he is constantly losing to the aging Valtteri Bottas and that is a bad sign.
Zhou needs to show something special if he is to keep his seat at Sauber beyond 2024.
Logan Sargent (Williams)
Logan Sargeant’s seat was controversial and the Williams team wasn’t entirely sure whether to give the American a chance.
Sargeant certainly has the potential to do much better, but his future in Formula 1 depends on his performance next season against teammate Alex Albon.
Valtteri Bottas (Sauber F1)
Bottas was Hamilton’s partner and could not withstand the test of the champion’s car. He looked weak compared to the Briton, just like Sergio Perez looks weak compared to Max Verstappen now. However, his driving was unimpressive, even within the less ambitious Sauber team.
Sauber was in decline, but Bottas, with his experience, should have stopped the decline. This did not happen, the Finn looked very weak and it will now be determined next year whether he will stay in Formula 1.
Daniel Ricciardo (AlphaTauri)
Daniel Ricciardo is approaching the most important stage of his career.
He will have to take part in the 2024 Formula 1 season and prove to Red Bull that he can compete and even compete in the main team. If he doesn’t, the question will be how motivated he will be to continue driving a car that will likely never challenge the front runners.
