The president of the Italian automobile club ACI, Angelo Sticchi Damiani, said in November that he was confident in extending the contracts for the races at Monza and Imola. Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali confirmed talks were underway but said it was time to start construction work at Monza, which was scheduled for September.
Stefano Domenicali: “We are indeed negotiating with Monza and Imola about a possible contract extension. I am in constant contact with the Italian Motorsport Federation, but the work in Monza was supposed to start after the Grand Prix, and now it is December and it has not started yet.
I consider the pressure from our side as positive, but internal bureaucracy should not hold up agreed projects. We have to move with the times.
In 2020, Imola was presented with an unusual opportunity, which they took advantage of. Unfortunately we couldn’t race there this year due to flooding. We look forward to next year, but it is important to understand that we can no longer rely on private investment.
It is important to understand our country’s willingness to invest in Formula 1 as a sporting, advertising and business platform, as Formula 1 can no longer be private.”
