After a serious accident during a rally in 2011, Robert Kubica underwent numerous operations and took a long time to recover, but in 2019 he was able to return to Formula 1 by signing a contract with Williams.
The return was unsuccessful, the car proved uncompetitive and the Pole was consistently inferior to his young teammate George Russell. In an interview with Przeglad Sportowy, Kubica admitted that he had made a mistake then.
Robert Kubica: “Over the years I have come to realize that I don’t have to race at any cost. I want to find the right environment, I know what I need to feel good. And the current situation provides a certain sense of spiritual comfort.
In terms of results, returning to Williams is the worst thing I can do. But I have a lot of respect for this team, there are many strong specialists there who really knew what they were doing. Unfortunately, I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
