While Mercedes and Ferrari are building new cars for the coming season, Aston Martin will use an optimized version of the AMR23 this year. Fernando Alonso thinks this won’t hurt.
Fernando Alonso: “The goals won’t change much, but there are too many uncertainties in every season. Anything can happen in Formula 1. After the tests and the first race we will roughly understand what we can count on. We hope to remain competitive and regularly compete for points and podiums. We hope for our first victory – it would be incredible, but the complexity of this task cannot be underestimated.
This year we exceeded expectations because they were low and we had an incredible season. If we set too high, unrealistic expectations, the opposite can happen.
I’m going into my second year with the team, which will help a lot; I won’t have to do many of the things I did at the beginning of this year. Everything will become easier, we will be able to concentrate on preparing for the races from the first day of testing.
We have laid a good foundation this year, now we will focus on the details and start optimizing.”
