In an interview with Auto Motor und Sport, Nico Hulkenberg summarized the results of the past season, but so far avoided questions about the future…
Nico Hulkenberg: “The improvements to the car during the season did not pay off. At the beginning of the season we were still in contention, but at the end we slipped to last place. Of course I didn’t expect us to earn points every weekend, but I still expected more.
We have to be honest with ourselves and admit that it doesn’t meet our needs when we put so much work into converting a car and the result turns out to be almost the same. There are several reasons: team size, budget, infrastructure, level of specialists. Our goal is to achieve more next year.
Possible switch to Sauber in 2025 and then to Audi? I have no answer. Time will tell. Let’s see how the season goes next year. Will our car be competitive? There probably needs to be some changes in the team to prevent this from happening again.”
