At the end of the year, Franz Tost leaves his position as head of the AlphaTauri team and addressed the fans before Christmas, probably for the last time in this capacity.
Franz Tost: “2023 is coming to an end and it has been quite a difficult year. At the beginning of the season the car performed worse than we expected, and after that we changed drivers more than once. Such changes always destabilize the team, and besides, don’t forget that AlphaTauri was hit by a natural disaster, a flood in Emilia-Romagna.
More than twenty team members became homeless, and this was also a very strong shock for all of us.
But the second part of the season went better: we were able to increase the efficiency of the car, introduce many technical innovations and the results went up. This is also important for next year, because at the end of this season I will retire and hand over the responsibilities to Peter Bayer, who will become director, and Laurent Mekies, who will take over as sports director.
I’m optimistic that they can take AlphaTauri to the next level. But already in January I start to miss our team, I will miss all this stress associated with the start of the season, with the work on creating a car, with crash tests, because, as always, we did everything should get it in no time. Time for the pre-season testing.
I will miss the great people I have worked with over the past 18 years and would like to thank all AlphaTauri and Red Bull fans for their great support! I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year!”
