Piastri has not yet worked with the new car on the simulator

McLaren is in full swing creating the 2024 car, intensive work has been going on on this project for several months, but the end of the season was so intense that Oscar Piastri still hasn’t had the chance to get acquainted with the habits of the future car on the simulator.

“To be honest, the 2023 calendar was so busy that the races were one after the other, so working on the circuits required full concentration,” Australian publication Speedcafe quoted Piastri as saying. – It was important for the team to take 4th place in the Constructors’ Championship and compete against even stronger opponents, which fortunately we achieved.

Of course, Lando and I share comments on the behavior of the car and participate in choosing the direction of further development, when we talk about all processes in a broader sense, but until the last moment our priority was racing.

We are regularly consulted on various concepts and ideas, so the technical search process continues. Clearly there is still a lot of time before the preparation period begins, and I believe the team will have time to make serious progress. It will be very interesting to get acquainted with the new car when everything starts to take more concrete forms in early 2024.

The investments the team has made in a new wind tunnel and a next-generation simulator, as well as other steps to develop the infrastructure of the McLaren Technology Center, are heading in a very positive direction. It is great that we now have such modern and high-quality equipment, because it allows us to work more efficiently.

When it comes to a new simulator, it always takes time to debug it because it is important to achieve the right level of correlation. This process continues, but it is already felt that the simulator is useful in working on certain aspects of the simulator. machine.”

In 2024, Piastri will continue to work with his race engineer Tom Stallard, who previously worked with Daniel Ricciardo.

“It is always important to build a strong working relationship with the entire technical team,” Oscar emphasized. – The engineers helped me a lot this year, especially since I was a newbie. Good mutual understanding and a well-organized exchange of information are the key to success in the field of machine modernization, and our cooperation has developed quite positively.

With each race these relationships grew stronger as we spent so much time together at different types of meets. It’s great that I already know all my colleagues.”

McLaren has not yet announced the date for the presentation of the new car, but it will at least be before the start of the pre-season testing in Bahrain, which will take place from February 21 to 23.
