Max Verstappen, like all Formula 1 drivers, is now on holiday and has gone to Portugal, where a funny story happened to him in his own way, about which the European press writes, in particular about the British tabloid The Sun.
The three-time world champion was not allowed to rent a powerful Mercedes-AMG GT – one of the Portuguese branches of the famous rental company Sixt explained to Verstappen that he was too young to drive a car that can accelerate to 300 km/h or more. According to local regulations, the customer must be at least 30 years old.
Therefore, the best driver of modern Formula 1 had to settle for a more modest model – the BMW 5 Series sedan, which is not so playful, although it cannot be called slow, since its maximum speed is about 250 km/h.
According to a Sixt representative, “in order to find a solution acceptable to the customer, the company has made available to Mr. Verstappen another premium car.” By the way, Mercedes was eventually rented by Max’s manager Raymond Fermuehlen.
However, the same company representative further added that there are exceptions to the rules, and that Max Verstappen, to whom Sixt apologized for the inconvenience caused, can rent any car he wants in the future, as there can be no doubt about his driving skills.
Max flew to the Algarve with a large group of friends and family members in three private jets earlier this week, and they rented about twenty cars – the aforementioned Mercedes was one of them. According to The Sun, the company has also rented a circuit in Portimão for a few days for some driving fun.
