Former Formula 1 driver and Sky Sport F1 commentator Martin Brundle on the difficulties with the arrival of the Andretti team…
Martin Brundle: “After replacing the commentator’s suit with a fan jersey, I would like to see another team, two more cars and drivers on the starting field.
Andretti is a big name, but they never really built their own car and they haven’t dominated IndyCar or any other category in recent years. And it’s not a fact that just because the team is called Andretti that it will be competitive.
I can understand why Formula 1 management and teams say to Andretti: “Wait a minute.” Formula 1 is currently doing excellently. You can’t just join this club that has gone through years and decades of trials, losing money and investing huge amounts of money.
So I understand everything. It is worth considering whether Team A from the USA can provide worthy competition? What will they bring to Formula 1? I believe you need to get rid of the emotions associated with the name Andretti and make a rational decision.
But I would like to see more cars on the grid.”
