Construction of the new Aston Martin base continues

Construction of a new Aston Martin F1 base continues at Silverstone, and although the team has partly moved to new buildings, as we mentioned, not all facilities have yet come into use. At the end of the year, the team decided to report on the progress of the work and talk about future plans.

For this purpose, the floor was once again given to Guy Austin, project manager for the construction of the new Aston Martin base.

Guy Austin: “The last time we spoke was in the summer, and now it’s December and I’m standing in front of Building No. 3, where our new wind tunnel will be installed. The pipe itself will be built in September 2024, but our model production will move here on January 8.

Since the summer, great progress has been made on the construction of Building No. 2, and now we are going there to inspect everything. The work there is also nearing its end point and will be completed around August or September. In general everything is going well.

I’ll tell you what’s going to happen in the coming weeks and months during the construction of Building No. 2. When we were here last time, the zero-cycle work was still underway, but now the entire structure of the building is ready and the roof structures have already been installed. Concrete work is being carried out on the ground floor and basically everything that needs to be done on this floor has already been done. We have already started construction of a parking garage.

Just like in building no. 1, there will be a kind of central street inside, which runs through the entire building. The roof will be made of glass, so that daylight enters the building, just like in the first building. In terms of architectural ideas embodied in the first two buildings, these buildings have much in common.

Building No. 2 is designed for many different functions, including an employee gym with all necessary equipment. Next will be a restaurant, which will have high ceilings just like the gym, and above that, on the next floor, there will be several offices, a bistro for staff and rooms where employees can eat privately and where the team can eat. receiving guests and business partners.

A new simulator will be installed in the same building on which the racers will train, and preparatory work at this location is already underway. But the second building is largely intended to create comfortable conditions for our staff, including for spending free time.

All three buildings will be connected by passages, and installation of the first, between the second and third buildings, began before Christmas. These walkways allow employees to move from one building to another without having to go outside in the rain or cold. Furthermore, this will enable efficient communication between all departments.

Everything on the ground floor will be arranged according to the principle of open space and it is expected that 120 employees will be housed here. But specialists from building no. 1 also come here.

Solar panels have already been ordered to generate electricity for building No. 2 and No. 3, which we will receive next year. Complexes of such batteries will be mounted on the roofs of all three buildings and will generate approximately 0.5 megawatts of electricity.”
