Mike Krak answered nine questions about himself

Formula 1 team leaders do not often talk about themselves, what kind of people they are, what their life principles and preferences are. Mike Krak, now head of the Aston Martin team, is probably one of the few exceptions.

The 51-year-old Luxembourger started his Formula 1 career in 2001 at Sauber as a telemetry engineer, and when the Swiss team was acquired by BMW, Krak was appointed chief engineer.

In 2008 he left BMW Sauber, worked for the Formula 3 teams and then returned to BMW, where he became chief engineer of the DTM factory team, and in 2013 he received the position of chief race engineer of the Porsche program in the World Endurance Championship. . In the period 2014 to 2022. Krak again worked with BMW and gained experience in championships such as Formula E and the American IMSA series.

Finally, on January 14, 2022, it was announced that he would lead Aston Martin F1, and judging by how the team’s affairs went last season, Mike Krak is handling his responsibilities quite successfully. The qualities discussed in this interesting questionnaire will help him with this. When answering questions, he had to choose one of two answer options: ‘yes’ or ‘no’.

Question: Am I punctual?
Mike Krak: Yes. I think if you are not punctual it is a sign of bad manners, and a Formula 1 team can only work effectively if everyone does everything on time.

Question: Am I lucky?
Mike Krak: Yes. I was very lucky because I managed to manage the Formula 1 team.

Question: Do you have to go out of your way to make me angry?
Mike Krak: Yes and no. On the one hand, in difficult situations it is very important to keep your emotions under control, on the other hand, my eldest son easily manages to make me angry. He knows which buttons to push!

Question: Am I good at taking risks?
Mike Krak: Yes. In Formula 1 it is impossible to take the lead and achieve the best possible results if you are not prepared to take risks.

Question: Am I trying to be neat?
Mike Krak: Yes, although I’m not sure everyone will agree.

Question: Do I always finish what I start?
Mike Krak: Yes. With the exception of reading books: I’m really bad at this. It’s a rare book that I read to the end.

Question: Am I effective?
Mike Krak: (after some thought) No. I think I could be much more efficient.

Question: I always follow the plan…
Mike Krak: Yes. But there should be several options for plans.

Q: Do you make decisions without thinking about them?
Mike Krak: No. I don’t think this is the right way to approach things.
