Mike Krak, Aston Martin F1 Team Principal, who commented on the results of the Austrian Grand Prix, emphasized that the main problems for Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel were in the fast corners, which the AMR22 car cannot handle well.
Mike Krak: “The tactics factor had a big influence on the results of the Grand Prix. I think we were one of the first to understand that hard tires aren’t particularly hopeful, and Sebastian started on Hard and he had problems with the pace.
In general, at some point we realized that our tactics weren’t very effective, but we also saw that other teams were also changing and adjusting tactical schedules. And after the pit stop, we ended up in those positions that more or less matched the capabilities of our car.
There are serious problems in our high-speed sections of the route. The Red Bull Ring has quite a short lap, but it has four fast corners and it was clear from the start that we would have difficulties.
But now it’s time to prepare for the French Grand Prix, and the team will have a detailed analysis of the situation to understand what we can count on. We will try to make some improvements to the car to try to add a little bit and climb to higher positions.
Paul Ricard also has fast sections, although they may not play such a decisive role there, as the circle is longer there. And yet there are quite a lot of such sections as well, so there is no confidence that we will be able to achieve significant improvements in the results.”
