Formula 1 mourns the death of Gilles de Ferrand

The motorsport world has been shocked by the death of Gilles de Ferran, a former CART/IndyCar driver who once worked in Formula 1 as sporting director for the BAR-Honda and McLaren teams. The 56-year-old Brazilian recently worked as a consultant for McLaren.

Many representatives of the racing community today talk and write about the two-time CART champion and Indy 500 winner – Stefano Domenicali did this on behalf of the entire Formula 1.

Stefano Domenicali: “I am shocked and deeply saddened by the news that we have lost Gilles de Ferran. He was a great man and a true champion, we will all miss him dearly. Our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.”

Since De Ferran was actively working with McLaren Racing, the following lines appeared on the company’s official social media pages: “Everyone at McLaren Racing experienced shock and deep sadness upon hearing of the passing of a dear member of the McLaren family. We extend our most sincere condolences to the family of Gilles de Ferrran, his friends and loved ones.”

It is worth quoting the words of Damon Hill, the 1996 world champion: “He was one of the nicest people I have ever known. He often made me laugh, he knew how to do it. God, Gilles, you left too early. My sincere condolences to his wonderful family and all who knew him (of whom there are many), and to everyone at McLaren. He was a fighter and a winner. Big loss…”

Naturally, many Formula 1 and IndyCar teams, drivers competing and competing in championships on both sides of the Atlantic, reacted to the sad news, and there is no doubt that the number of sad reactions will only increase.
