Mario Isola: Overtaking at Imola won’t be easy

The race in Imola is the home of Pirelli. This year the company is running the same trains as last season, although the tires are of course different.

The rules for using tires during the Saturday sprint weekend remained the same. Instead of 13 sets of tires on a normal weekend, teams get 12 – two sets of hard, four medium and six soft tires per car. In addition, they all get six sets of intermediate tires and three sets of wet tires.

Mario Isola: “Imola has a difficult old track, where it is not easy to overtake, also because it is quite narrow in some places. Much will be determined by a strategy whose main goal is to avoid traffic in the race.

This year we opted for the same rubber compounds, but these are completely different tires than in 2021, moreover, when the riders started on wet tires, and then the race was stopped for a long time due to red flags.

Imola has an average tire load, races are often held there, so the evolution of track condition over the weekend will not be as great as on other circuits. These are just some of the factors that teams need to consider when developing a tire strategy for the first sprint event of the season.”
