Horner: Ferrari was faster than ours in the race

Christian Horner commented on the results of the Austrian Grand Prix, which was won by Charles Leclerc. The head of Red Bull Racing congratulated the rivals and admitted that the Ferrari car was faster than the RB18 for most of the race distance.

Christian Horner «Ferrari has earned very important points – we congratulate them. For most of the race their car was faster than ours. Closer to the finish Max was able to close the gap, but in the middle of the first segment the tire degradation was very high and we couldn’t do anything about it.

Apparently the Ferrari car doesn’t put much pressure on the tires. In addition, they had a tempo advantage, which gave them more strategy options. Our pace got closer to the finish, Max showed the best lap, but we didn’t have the speed we could show in the sprint – we have to understand what this has to do with. Over the weekend we only lost five points, which is not so bad.

The championship lead is big, but Ferrari is fast, so we have to keep attacking. We can’t afford to turn back. Max fought with all his might, we almost bounced back at the finish, but it wasn’t enough.”

Speaking of the first lap collision between George Russell and Sergio Perez, Horner said: “I think Mercedes doesn’t like it when our cars overtake them in the outer radius at turn four. Too bad this happened to Sergio as he was already ahead The incident reminded me of the Alex Albon incident a few years ago.

Sergio’s car was badly damaged. There was no chance of earning points, so we decided to retire to save the life of the bike.
