The British motorsport community believed that Ron Dennis, who led the McLaren team for decades, was worthy of a knighthood, but he only won the right to be called ‘Sir Ron’ late last year, and we talked about it.
When the traditional price list approved by King Charles III was published, many former colleagues and representatives of the press congratulated Ron Dennis, but for some reason McLaren was one of the last to do so.
But already in the New Year, such a congratulation nevertheless appeared on the pages of the team, accompanied by Zak Brown, executive director of McLaren Racing.
“Congratulations to Mr. Ron Dennis! Ron, under whose leadership we won seven Constructors’ Championships, was knighted for his contribution to the motorsport industry and charity work,” said McLaren.
“Big congratulations to Sir Ron Dennis! Added Zac Brown. “Neither McLaren nor Formula 1 would be where they are today without his passion and commitment to excellence. Knighthood is a fully deserved and long overdue reward.”
As Ron Dennis was effectively removed from McLaren leadership in November 2016, and this was not done very elegantly, he withdrew completely from matters related to Formula 1 and sold his remaining shares in the team in the summer of 2017 .
