Human rights organizations want ‘F-1’ champion Pique to recover 1.8 million euros for insulting Hamilton

Human rights organizations have sued the three-time Formula 1 champion Nelson Piquet for allegedly causing moral harm to black and LGBT people due to a statement about a Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton according to Sky Sports.

Brazil’s federal court has announced an investigation into allegations made against the 69-year-old Brazilian for his comments about Hamilton. Four human rights organizations are demanding a fine of 10 million Brazilian reais (more than 1.8 million euros) for Pique, the defendant will have 15 days to make his position known.

In November 2021, the Brazilian called Hamilton a “neguinho”, which is considered a discriminatory racist word, during an analysis of an episode of the British Grand Prix race and an accident in the first part of the race. Pique apologized to the British driver but said his words were misinterpreted.

Previously, three deputies of the country’s parliament had filed complaints against the former pilot in the Brasilia court.
