Max Verstappen finished second in his team’s home Austrian Grand Prix. Before the start, the Red Bull Racing driver was counting on victory, but tire problems prevented Charles Leclerc from battling for first place.
His teammate Sergio Perez retired – the Mexican’s car was damaged on lap one after a collision with George Russell, who was found guilty of the incident by the jury.
Max Verstappen (2nd): “Tough day – I had tire problems that persisted on every set. The relegation turned out to be very strong so that Charles could be attacked. Still, second place is a nice result after a difficult day.
It’s nice to see so many of my fans come to Austria. Unfortunately I couldn’t please them with a win, but second place is still a good result. The fight will continue, which is great.”
Sergio Perez (descent): “It’s a pity that everything turned out this way. I was in the outer radius and tried my best to avoid the incident. George couldn’t control his car and we collided just as I was clearly already in the front.
I’m sorry Carlos Sainz retired today, but his problems have nothing to do with us. We need to analyze the weekend and understand why the car didn’t have enough speed in the race.”
