The team, known as Alfa Romeo for the past five seasons, was named Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber on the official 2024 entry form released in December. However, the management of the Swiss team immediately made it clear that the name could still change, which was confirmed on the first day of the new year.
Now simply called Stake F1 Team, the reference to its roots has disappeared and the name of the founder, Peter Sauber, can only be found in the name of the chassis: Kick Sauber.
We talked about the fact that the name Stake F1 Team could cause legal problems, but this is only expected after some time, but there was an immediate angry reaction from the fans.
In numerous comments on social networks that appeared on the Stake page under the message about the change of the team name, they not only do not hide their disappointment, but sometimes do not choose their expressions.
Here is one of the most neutral sentences: “I think the real Formula 1 fans are really upset.”
“Worst team name in Formula 1 history,” wrote another fan.
“And all this to stay in last place in the team rankings,” echoes a third.
There are dozens of similar comments, but perhaps the general mood is best captured by these words: “Why don’t you give credit to the person who created this team, who brought it back to the championship when it was about to be closed down? end of 2009? What he did then made the team what it is today. I absolutely don’t understand this.”
Many fans write that they will no longer follow the results of this team from now on. Perhaps this is an exaggeration, and such a reaction from the public can be considered overly emotional, but it is difficult to resist the comment that Sauber’s history should be treated with more respect.
