Raymond Fermuehlen, Max Verstappen’s manager, can sometimes be seen in the paddock talking to Stefano Domenicali, president and CEO of Formula 1.
In an interview with the Dutch magazine Formula1.nl, Fermeulen was asked what they usually talk about, and he gave the following answer: “For example, Donicali is interested in what we think of a certain Grand Prix. Stefano is one of those who is willing to communicate on different topics and asks our opinion. And of course I know that Max is really listened to in the Formula 1 world.
This also applies to the fate of the race in Spa: we are happy that this stage remains on the championship calendar. We also like that the Netherlands wants to extend Zaanfdort’s Formula 1 contract and we appreciate it when promoters do a great job. Because everything that happens also has consequences for us. We are therefore very proud when we see that everything in Zandvoort is very well organised.”
Fermeulen, who has worked with Verstappen since 2016, was also asked what championship titles mean to his protégé, both sportingly and financially.
“You could see that after Max won his first championship he became a much calmer driver,” he replied. “I think he’s still going to continue to grow and develop.” I can’t say in which direction we will move in the future, but Max is already performing in a class of his own. At the same time, I believe he can still achieve a lot. In any case, the most important thing is the results. And of course they also have a commercial component.”
Fermühlen emphasized that Verstappen has no desire to change the team: “We are not interested in that. Why would Max move anywhere now? However, the world is small, so everyone has conversations with each other on whatever topic, but we have obligations to Red Bull until 2028.
As you can see, Max is in a very favorable position, piloting without any pressure. That’s why we won’t think about changing the team until 2028. Maybe Verstappen will end his career with the same team, that could also be a different story.”
