Last fall we told you that Fernando Alonso, who took part in a sponsor event at Spain’s Circuito del Jarama, near Madrid, had a blast driving the 2019 Aston Martin Vantage DTM sports car.
He liked the car so much that he decided to buy it – once Aston Martin, together with the German company HWA AG, built five such cars. The amount of the deal has not been disclosed, but it is known that Fernando asked for a passenger seat to be installed in the cockpit so that the car could be used for demonstration drives.
In December, Alonso tested his new acquisition at the Aragon circuit, together with Spanish driver Daniel Juncadella, who once competed in the DTM in the same car.
“I was there to support him when he needed help mastering some basic aspects of this machine,” PlanetF1 quotes Juncadella as saying. “Fernando has a lot of experience and a lot of knowledge of racing cars. But I enjoyed spending the day in his company, and driving seems to come very naturally to him.
He understood everything quickly, did not ask many questions, because he knows how to act. According to Fernando, the car made an excellent impression on him and its speed capabilities exceeded his expectations.”
The Aston Martin Vantage DTM that Alonso purchased was used for testing purposes, while the other four examples were raced. But after the two-time world champion acquired such a car in his collection, HWA expects that some wealthy customers will show interest in the two remaining sports cars from this series.
