The battle between Mick Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton for eighth place in Saturday’s Austrian Grand Prix sprint proved to be bright and memorable. The Haas rider held back the seven-time world champion for quite some time, but in the end Lewis successfully overtook him.
After the finish, Mick made no secret of his disappointment, as he felt the team should have asked the slower Kevin Magnussen to let him continue.
“In a way, the fight with Lewis was optional, because my speed allowed me to stay ahead of Kevin,” said Mick Schumacher after the sprint. – We need to discuss this issue with the team as I don’t understand why my partner and I didn’t change positions. I believe I can attack Esteban Ocon up front.
In a way, I saved Kevin from Lewis’ attacks. I hoped he would let me through, but it didn’t, and then I was without DRS, which left me vulnerable. It’s unbelievable that I was able to compete with Mercedes and Red Bull, but I think I could have done better.”
