FIA director for single-seater racing Nicholas Tombasis believes that with the switch to the new power plant regulations, the power output of engines from different manufacturers, of which there will be six, will be approximately equal.
Nicholas Tombasis: “We don’t want to start the season with a big difference in strength. Past experiences have taught us a lot, I hope we will do everything right this time.
It is important to exercise reasonable vigilance in developing regulations to ensure that all producers have equal opportunities. For the first time, a spending limit is being introduced for manufacturers. If you don’t make it through the season and start in bad form, in the past, if you had the money, you could bounce back, but nowadays it’s not that easy.
We believe that the regulations we have drawn up will allow us to avoid major differences between manufacturers, but we cannot guarantee that none of the six manufacturers will make fundamental mistakes.
The transition to a new scheme is always accompanied by a certain risk. But there are some provisions included whereby someone who is very behind will be given the opportunity to catch up.”
