Mercedes team chief Rob Thomas spoke about the work at the base and the preparations for the new season.
Rob Thomas: “This period is always interesting. We work in multiple shifts six days a week, it’s dark and cold outside and the tension increases every day. It all starts with a design, then we translate it into details and see how a new car is slowly created.
We always actively celebrate important events, for example we are all present together at the first engine start. If there had not been such joyful moments, it would have been just hard work for six months.
These holidays are very important. We are all part of something bigger. They keep us on our toes, and with an incredible desire to win again, you won’t get that anywhere else.
In the early years we took creating a common culture very seriously. Our core values are based on what we proudly call: passion, respect, innovation, determination, excellence.
Over the years we have become a close-knit group of goal-oriented people, we all treat each other with great respect and no one in the team is more important than the other. We remove status and hierarchy to create space for the exchange of ideas. We try to be the best in the world, and to achieve that everyone has to contribute.”
