Alex Palou signed to McLaren Racing

The contract with last year’s Indycar champion Alex Palou was confirmed in two teams this week, but he will drive for McLaren.

Chip Ganassi Racing announced on Tuesday that it had exercised an option in Palou’s contract to keep him with the team for the 2023 season with a release featuring quotes from the management and driver. A few hours later, Palou announced on social networks that this was a mistake, that he would not play for the team next season and did not say the words attributed to him in the release.

This night Palou’s contract was announced at McLaren Racing, without specifying which series he would compete in. McLaren Racing will confirm the drivers composition in all its racing series after a while, but for now Spaniard Pato O’Ward and Colton Herta will test behind the wheel of last year’s Formula 1 car. Perhaps one of them will replace Daniel Ricciardo next season.

Alex Palow: “I am very happy to join the legendary McLaren team and have the opportunity to try my hand at the wheel of Formula 1. Let’s see what doors this can open. I want to thank everyone at Chip Ganassi Racing for everything they have done for me.”

Zach BrownMcLaren Racing CEO: “We’ve always said we want to bring the most talented racers to McLaren and I’m glad Alex made this list.

I am looking forward to getting behind the wheel of Formula 1 with Pato O’Ward and Colton Herta during the tests. Alex is an incredibly talented driver who has won every series he has competed in. I am delighted to welcome him to the McLaren family.”
